Terms of Service
Last updated 23 September 2026 · Applies to Waylight: the website and waitlist at waylightapp.site, the web app, the iOS app, and the API.
1. The service
Waylight is a route-planning app that scores walking and cycling routes on real, measured comfort factors (lighting, surface, shade, traffic) rather than distance alone. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.
2. Accounts
You need an account to use the app. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for activity under your account. You must provide a real email address you control, because sign-in depends on it. You can delete your account at any time from inside the app (see Privacy Policy §10).
3. Premium subscriptions
- What it is. Waylight Premium unlocks unlimited use of the AI assistant and any other features we label as Premium in the app. The price, billing period and any free trial are shown in the app before you buy, in your local currency.
- Payment. In the iOS app, Premium is bought through Apple's App Store. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period at the then-current price unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Managing and cancelling. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple ID account settings (iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions). Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep Premium until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting your Waylight account or the app does not cancel the subscription.
- Free trials. If a free trial is offered, any unused part of it is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
- Refunds. Purchases made through the App Store are handled by Apple under Apple's refund policies; request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Your statutory rights are unaffected.
- Restoring. Use Restore purchases in the app to re-activate Premium on a new device signed in to the same Apple ID and Waylight account.
- Price changes. Apple will notify you of price changes in line with its rules, and where required ask for your consent before a higher price applies.
4. AI credits and rewarded ads
Without Premium, each account gets a small free daily allowance of AI assistant requests. In the iOS app you can earn additional requests ("credits") by choosing to watch a short rewarded ad; the number of credits per ad is shown before you watch. Credits have no cash value, cannot be bought, sold or transferred, are tied to your account, and may expire. A reward is granted only when the ad network confirms the ad was watched in full; we may withhold credits obtained through automation, ad blocking tricks, or other abuse. We may change the free allowance or the reward per ad by updating the app. Rewarded ads are provided by Google AdMob; see Privacy Policy §6 for what that involves and how to limit ad personalisation.
5. Waitlist and referral programme
You can join the waitlist. Joining is free, creates no account, and obliges you to nothing. You must give a real email address you control and confirm it by clicking the link we send; entries that are never confirmed are deleted after 30 days.
The referral offer. Every confirmed member gets a personal invite link. Two things follow from people joining through it:
- Before launch, your position in the early-access queue improves. This costs nothing and promises nothing beyond earlier access.
- After launch, for each person who joined through your link and then takes out a paid Premium subscription, you receive one month of Premium free. There is no cap on how many months you can earn this way.
Conditions. Only confirmed signups count. Free months are awarded once the referred person's subscription payment has actually cleared, and are credited as service; they carry no cash value and cannot be transferred, sold or refunded. Self-referral, duplicate or disposable addresses, automated signups, and addresses entered without the owner's knowledge do not count, and we may remove entries and withhold rewards where we reasonably believe this has happened. We may change or withdraw the referral offer by updating this page; months already earned will still be honoured.
6. Acceptable use
Don't use Waylight to: scrape or bulk-extract our map/comfort data beyond ordinary personal use; attempt to bypass rate limits, credit limits or authentication; impersonate another person; harass or track another user via presence sharing; submit false reports; or submit content to the AI assistant that is unlawful, abusive, or designed to extract data about other users. We may suspend accounts that violate this section.
7. AI-assisted features
The free-text assistant is optional; every route-planning feature is also available through filters and buttons that never touch an AI model. When you use free text, it is sent with approximate location context to Infomaniak AI Services (Euria, Mistral-family models) solely to extract a structured route intent; see Privacy Policy §4. AI output can be wrong. The assistant may misunderstand your request or pick an unexpected destination; always check the destination and route shown before you set off. The routes, distances and comfort scores are computed by Waylight's own routing engine from real map data, not invented by the model, but the same limits in §8 apply to them.
8. Routes are suggestions: data accuracy and your safety
Every route, score, time estimate and AI answer is a suggestion, not an instruction or a guarantee. Comfort scores are built from OpenStreetMap data, municipal open data where available, user reports and derived signals (lighting tags, surface tags, live weather, sun position). This data can be incomplete, outdated or wrong for a given street; a street marked as lit may be dark tonight, a pavement marked step-free may be blocked. We show "unknown" rather than guessing where we lack data, but we cannot guarantee that any route is safe, accessible, open or accurate.
Always pay attention to your surroundings, obey traffic rules and local signs, and use your own judgement about personal safety. Do not look at the app while crossing roads or cycling. Waylight is not an emergency service; in an emergency call your local emergency number (112 in the EU).
9. Security vulnerability disclosure
If you find a security issue, email contact@waylightapp.site with "Security" in the subject (see also security.txt). We acknowledge reports within 48 hours and aim to triage within 5 business days. Please report privately and give us a reasonable window to fix a vulnerability before disclosing it publicly. We won't pursue legal action against good-faith security research conducted under this policy.
10. Intellectual property and map data
The Waylight app, design, and code are owned by its operator except where otherwise licensed. Map and street data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL); our comfort-graph packs are a derivative database under ODbL §4.4. See our LICENSE file for the full notice and share-alike terms. Some municipal datasets carry their own attribution requirements, credited in-app where used.
11. Suspension and termination
You may stop using Waylight and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate §6, or discontinue the service with reasonable notice where practical. If we discontinue the service while you have an active paid subscription, you may request a refund for the unused period through Apple.
12. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
Waylight is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, to the extent permitted by law. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including reliance on route, comfort-score or AI output. Nothing in these terms limits liability where the law does not permit it (for example for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or gross negligence), or your statutory consumer rights.
13. Apple App Store terms
If you downloaded Waylight from the App Store, your use of the iOS app is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (standard EULA). These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it, and is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to it. In the event of any failure of the app to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any); to the maximum extent permitted by law Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. Where these terms and the standard EULA conflict for the iOS app, the standard EULA applies to the extent required by Apple.
14. Changes to these terms
We update the date and version badge at the top of this page whenever these terms change, and notify signed-in users in-app of material changes. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
15. Governing law
As Waylight has not yet formed a legal entity, no specific governing-law or jurisdiction clause is asserted here beyond your own local consumer-protection rights, which remain unaffected. This section will be completed once a legal entity is formed.
